For the prices, we expected something above average and were disappointed. The salads were okay, a cheese board came with six small crackers for six people! When we sat down, we were offered 'still or mineral' water and later saw the charge of eight dollars for the bottle of water we consumed. The featured onion soup was stuffed with bread and the flavor was off. We won't be returning.
Updating my review...i think my 4 star was accidental. Cafe Nell is a regular go-to in NW. Fresh, local ingredients, fantastic choices for lunch (I haven't gone to dinner there), and outdoor seating in the nicer weather times. Good wines by the glass too.

Wow. Their Brunch is out of control. First off, you must get their Bloody Mary - it's almost a meal in itself. So take that one easy so you have enough room for your meal. I ordered the Stuffed Avocado which I feel most people would like. For my main course - I went with the classic Biscuits & Gravy which I always fear will not have enough gravy, flavor, or sausage. This did not fall short at all. One of the best I've had. Every dish my friend's had they also enjoyed as well. Wasn't a bad pick anywhere. Service was absolutely attentive and amazing.
I love this place! The food is good although kind of expensive. But it kind of matches the ambience and high-quality customer service. I love how lgbtq-friendly they are. Definitely a special place in Portland that I enjoy going back to. They also have a wonderful bar/bar tenders.
