A beautiful store. But, and here comes the problem. Honesty. I had a monkey roll at the Sellwood location and it was a day old; same with an almond croissant at the Hawthorne location. Now at the Freemont. When I told the the young man I was schooled. Yet I opened my first bakery years before GC opened in Pionerr Square in Seattle and made plenty of press. Why this dishonesty? Why not uphold professional standards? Aim less for profits and more to keep customers happy... Take a lesson from Bakeshop?
Comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere, lots of natural light and an informal setting with one communal, hardwood table in the center of the room with other hardwood tables and chairs for groups of 2-4 and also counter seating by the large windows. Staff were nice, helpful and welcoming. Had tomato soup, a parsnip/carrot soup and ham sandwich. Very good soups as both had delicious flavor coming from the vegetables instead of from heavy use of salt, seasonings, etc. Really enjoyed the parsnip/carrot soup! The ham sandwich was made with fresh bread and thinly sliced ham and again, flavor came from the food and a light dressing. They also have pastries, cookies, and other menu items too.
Their coffee is fair, their pastery very good, especially monkey muffins, and their bread is great.
First time to this location Very airy feel to it, and friendly staff. The sweet potato tart was oh so yummy, I only wish I bought 1 or 2 more for home!
Stopped by here during Fremont Fest. I found this place to have an amazing menu, and wonderful staff. The atmosphere was perfect. I really enjoyed drinking my deliciously crafted Chai tea in such a great shop.
