Call me bias to my hometown but after living in Arizona and visiting the zoos there The Oregon Zoo is my and my son's favorite zoo. Not only do they work hard to create great exhibits they put on so many good special events and programs. I have been going to this zoo since I was a child, and it has always been a great family zoo. Always amazed at what I see and learn.

What a great zoo. My toddler had a blast seeing all of the different animals and I enjoyed the educational components. Really excited to see what the zoo creates with their renovations and new exhibits set to open next year. Until then, we'll keep coming back to check out all the animals and enjoy our day at the zoo!

Going to the zoo is always such a great experience. Today was fantastic as it was snowing and limited visitors. It was easy to see how well the zoo keepers care and love for the various animals there. The layout is perfect for an adventure with tiny humans and not to tiring for them. Excited to see the new improvement and exhibits over the years to come.

This year we were able to attend a special night at Zoo lights. It was very low key. No train. No loud crowds. They were great enough to have two separate walk ways. So if need be you could avoid the very lighted path. Our family was very grateful. Our daughter absolutely loved all the lights.

I wrestle with my love for viewing these beautiful animals and the pang of guilt I feel knowing they are captive. I do understand a good percentage of the zoo inhabitants here are rehabilitated animals, which eases my conscience a bit. The Oregon Zoo is well laid out and the different animal exhibits are well designed for easy viewing. As with any zoo, timing plays a part. At times animals are out of sight. Some of my best visits have been in the winter months. Discounted rate and much fewer people mean you can leisurely explore. The winter weather in Portland is usually mild enough that the most you need to contend with is some rain. Drinks and snacks are allowed to be brought in, which is very good for families and budget-minded visitors. On-site food and drink are over priced as you'd expect and not particularly delicious. But I don't visit the zoo for culinary expertise. I've attached some of my favorite shots I've managed to capture on my visits. A stop at the Oregon Zoo can be very therapeutic...
