I seriously hope this place stays in business forever. Yeah yeah, streaming is great and all, but there are loads of movies in this world worth watching that will never find their way to Netflix or Hulu. Do yourself a favor, turn off the streaming services one night a month and rent a film from Movie Madness instead.
This place is about as Portland as you can get. I love that it takes you back to the analog age. And prices are great!
Having worked at a video store back east for almost 8 years, I can say that Movie Madness is, bar none, the best one out there as far as selection goes. Their level of organization is fantastic, they make it easy to check what movies are in stock, and most of the staff I've interacted with are very friendly. There was one guy a couple of years ago who was supremely rude, but I haven't seen him since so it's likely he moved on. Seriously, though, the rest are all friendly and the store is great.
The greatest of the remaining video rental stores. They stock almost every possible movie you could want, with a great collection of cult, B, classics, foreign and modern American movies. Helpful staff and an amazing museum of movie memorabilia and costumes on display.
I absolutely love this movie rental place. I'm very sad to see them dwindle as Netflix and other products promote streaming from home. I still love the past time of going to the local movie rental place and getting a movie or two for a special date night in or just as a small reward throughout my month to keep me motivated for the many things I have to do throughout the week. Great selection and as a bonus, Movie Madness has a variety of props/costumes from some rather famous films and musicals. I enjoy looking at the various different things they have on display while my boyfriend finds his movie pick for the evening.
